The Schwarz Saddle |
|
There's a lot that goes into the making of one of my signature saddles. At the foundation is a saddle tree made by Warren Wright.
Warren has hand carved and rawhided approximately 5,000 saddle trees since 1969. He learned the finer points of tree making from the legendary Bill Severe of Pendleton, Oregon. Bill Severe learned his trade from Hamley's master saddle tree maker Walter Youngman. Many of Warren's own patterns show a heavy Hamley influence. Warren is committed to helping preserve the traditional art of saddle tree making using the time honored methods of Youngman and Severe with the prominent use of drawknives and spokeshaves.
The design and amount of ornamentation that can go into creating a custom saddle is only limited by the imagination and the checkbook, but here are the basics:
- The leather used on every one of my signature saddles is "A" grade Hermann Oak
- The base price includes mohair cinch, Keith Wilson stirrups, flat plate rigging, 3" wide doubled and stitched back cinch, slick fork, stainless steel hardware throughout, plain smooth or roughout.
- Currently 45% of my customers are repeat customers.
- There is approximately a four year wait
Bucking rolls: I've been making bucking rolls out of beaver tail leather since 1988. You will wear out several conventional pair made from cowhide while a single pair made from this rugged leather may last a lifetime. Each hand crafted pair is lined with canvas and stuffed with wool shorn from bark-tanned skins. Contact me for price and availability.
